Kabakgillerden olup olgunla\u015fmam\u0131\u015f hali ile de t\u00fcketim sa\u011flanabilir. Olgun olmayan haline zaten kabak denir. Kavunlar kal\u0131n kabuklu, i\u00e7i etli, bol sulu ve bol \u00e7ekirdeklidir. Kavunun memleketi Orta Asya, \u0130ran ve Anadolu topraklar\u0131 olup T\u00fcrkiye de kavun denildi\u011finde akla ilk gelenler, K\u0131rka\u011fa\u00e7 Kavunu, Ankara Kavunu, Hasanbey kavunudur. Kavun s\u0131cak b\u00f6lge bitkisidir.
